GAYE HOLUD
The Gaye Holud, pronounced “guy hoolud,” is an important Bengali pre-wedding tradition. The phrase roughly translates to “body turmeric” — family and friends take turns rubbing a small amount of turmeric paste on the couple. The practice is an agent to ward off evil spirits and ill effects. The couple is also fed sweets to add sweetness to their married life.
WHAT TO WEAR
Theme: Retro Bollywood Disco
Please wear shades of YELLOW and/or ORANGE with elements of sequin.
We encourage everyone to wear South Asian attire for the Gaye Holud (Day 2) and the Wedding & Reception (Day 3). We’ve made a list of recommended online stores.
